About CIE

Cambridge International Examination (CIE) is a part of Cambridge Assessment which was founded in 1858 and governed by Cambridge University which has been at the frontier of education for over 800 years since 1209.

CIE is the world's largest provider of international education programmes and qualifications in over 150 countries worldwide and it invests constantly in research and development to improve the quality of its education and programmes. This research and development can be in the form of online training courses and certificates for the school's academic body and also in the form of professional development workshops targeting new pedagogical approaches and familiarisation with examinations. All teachers are expected to participate in these online training courses and development workshops.

It is very important for parents to realise that the CIE IGCSE and A Level examinations are designed, written, administered, marked and moderated by the CIE in Cambridge University and that the certificates awarded to students are approved by the University of Cambridge. This in turn gives the IGCSE and A Level certificates a unique recognition or a "gold standard" in all Anglophone Universities and educational institutes. In addition, in some countries such as the US and Canada, many universities regard the A Level certificate as equivalent to first year Bachelor degrees thus enabling students to carry these credits to the second year of their undergraduate programmes.
