1. 因果关系

① Tom is lazy but his brother is industrious.

解析：lazy“懒惰的”

【标志词】：but“但是”—反义

故：industrious“刻苦的，勤奋的”

② John usually wastes a lot of money on such useless things . His wife, however, is very thrifty.

解析：waste“浪费”

【标志词】however“然而”—反义

故：thrifty“节约的”

③ He is so homely, not at all as handsome as his brother.

解析：handsome“英俊的”

【标志词】not at all“完全不”—反义

故：homely“相貌平平的”

④ Though Tom’s face has been washed quite clean, his neck is still grubby.

解析：clean“干净的”

【标志词】though“尽管”—反义

故：grubby“肮脏的”

⑤ You agree, write “Yes”. While you dissent, write “No”.
