1. Firstly, you should know where you are going.

首先要弄清你要去的是什么样的餐厅

Fine dining 高级餐厅

Casual dining 休闲餐厅

Fast food 快餐


2. The differences among the above 3 kinds of dining


三种餐厅的区别

Fine dining: The people who wear a penguin suit with a tie and a shirt walk up toyou. They serve on tables. You usually require a reservation to get a table. FINE here means EXPENSIVE.

在高级餐厅中,服务员会身着无尾礼服,搭配衬衫和领带,在餐桌周围提供服务。这种餐厅需要预约订位。Fine在这里的意思就是“昂贵”。


Casual dining: You can wear something casual, like jeans and T-shirt. It's OK. No one is gonna complain. Not like McDonald's, you can sit down with a knife or a fork, and you can eat your dinner. 

去休闲餐厅吃饭时,穿着平时的衣服就可以,比如牛仔裤啊,T恤啊,穿这些也不会有人指指点点。与麦当劳这种快餐不同的是,你在休闲餐厅可以用刀叉吃饭,可以享受正餐。


Fast food: McDonald's, Taco Bell, Subway.

熟知的快餐品牌有麦当劳、塔可钟、赛百味。

3. Party of & Table for 您几位


These two phrases mean the same thing.

两个短语意思一样


What they mean is you are a group of people, and how many are in the group.

二者都是“您几位”的意思


PARTY OF 4 or TABLE FOR 4 means there are 4 people in my party, or there are 4 of us.

Party of 4或table for 4的意思是我们有四个人

It's an idiom used for something you have first.

The word APPETITE relates to the word APPETIZER.

Appetite这个词与Appetizer相关,因此可以用来询问对“appetizer开胃菜”的需求。


8. The explanation of APPETIZER

对Appetizer的解释


Appetizer is the first thing you have when you have food.

Appetizer是就餐时首先吃的一些东西


It's something to start before the real meal or the real food.

正餐前吃的一些东西


STARTER means the same as APPETIZER. 

Starter是Appetizer的同义词。


9. Things you can have for an appetizer:

可以作为“开胃菜”的食物:


Soup 汤

10. Specials 特色菜


A lower price for some same food, or a better food for the same price

Usually the money goes down on the specials, the special of the day.

11. Two things included in the specials:

特色菜中通常包含的两种东西:


Catch of the day: caught fish. It means they got it today and it's new and fresh. 新鲜的鱼


Soup of the day 例汤


Every day these two will change. They will give you other different fish or differentsoup.

12. Prix fixe 套餐


Sometimes they will give you everything the same time for one price when they give you specials.

他们通常会以一个价格提供specials里的所有东西。


We call it PRIX FIXE when restaurants staff price all of the things together.

这种以一个价格提供所有东西的形式我们可以称为“prix fixe”


In a prix fixe, you usually can have 2 or 3 things all together for one price.

在套餐中,我们能以一个价格同时享用两三种食物。

Main = main course = big food 主食,正餐


14. Things you can have for the main course:

15. Sides & Substitutes 


Sides: It's extra food. It doesn't come with meal and you can buy it. You can add anything you like to your meal.

Sides是主食以外的食物,需另外付钱购买。你可以添加你喜欢的食物。


Substitutes: change something for something.

你可以更换主食中的其中一道小菜,这种叫做substitutes.

17. At the end, nothing is for free. You have one more thing to do, which is to pay.

最后,天下没有免费的午餐。你还需要做一件事,那就是付钱。

18. Other tips we need to know from the video:

A menu is a list of the food that they want you to try or have, or you might be interested in.

视频中对menu的解释很到位,大家可以学习一下~


The people who serve you want some politeness, so try to say May I/ Can I have XXX. You will be surprises that how much better they serve you or treat you.

服务员需要你以礼相待,所以,你在点菜的时候尽量用一些礼貌用语,比如may I或can I。


In North American & Canada, tip is not included in the bill. It is extra. 10%-20% is what restaurants staff are looking for.

在北美和加拿大,用餐账单中不包括小费。小费需另附,一般需付10%-20%。


If you get good service, and the service is really good, talk to the manager.

如果你真的得到了很好的服务,可以告诉经理。
