be getting at (something) 的意思是“设法说明（某事）”。

注意，取这条释义时，一定是be getting at，不能用get at。

上面的例句我们可以理解为“I cannot understand what you're trying to say.”～如果把这里的at换成on，即be getting on，表示“人上年纪，上岁数了”，属非正式用法。
